This was a fantastic event, and the weather (mostly) held out for a wonderful day organised by Scottish CND.
Lots of people from across Scotland got together in Glasgow’s George Square to form a human peace symbol to help raise awareness around issues of peace and nuclear disarmament. These issues have always been close to home in Scotland (where the entirety of the UK’s active nuclear weapons are based) so there was a good turnout for the day.
We had a lot of interest in our Greenpeace stall – after all, Greenpeace was formed almost exactly 40 years ago to try to prevent nuclear weapons testing in the Aleutian Islands!
We managed to get 22 personalised letters to David Cameron about the Common Fisheries Policy signed while we were there, including 10 people who asked to be kept up to date with the campaign as well as a lot of interest in the local Greenpeace active groups in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Many thanks to Steve and Zofia from Glasgow who organised the stall on the day and made a really successful day of it.
