The world has a new warrior – Rainbow Warrior III – and I was lucky enough to meet her last Sunday. And she is amazing. I joined thousands who waited patiently – but with barely contained excitement – for a chance to stand on deck and imagine her pounding through rougher seas. So much rests on what she can achieve but she’s custom-built for speed and purpose. As well as being such a potent symbol of what Greenpeace stands for.
Because of the huge numbers who’d turned out, we couldn’t go inside (maybe next time?) but what we could see was impressive. For example, the sails (which for obvious reasons couldn’t be unfurled in dock) are massive, which basically translates as “FAST”. If you want to know more about the technical stuff, go here or join the new crew on board on Facebook – then tell everyone you know : )
I might never realise my own dream of sailing to action on board the Warrior but I’m pretty happy to have stood on deck and wished her well. And a really lovely touch on dry land was the display of tributes to the old Rainbow Warrior, who has done so much and earned our everlasting respect.
