We had a fantastic afternoon at the entrance to St Andrew’s Square last weekend where the ‘Into the Deep’ outdoor photo exhibition was taking place. Five of us went along with a Greenpeace stall to talk to the public about the Energy Bill which is currently going through the House of Commons, and to persuade people to sign a Go Beyond Oil card to be sent to their MP.

Most people were really happy to talk about the campaign and sign a card asking their MP to improve the Energy Bill – as recent applications for deep water drilling in UK waters have been based off Scottish coastal areas, many people were quite aware of the issues involved and were keen to help prevent disasters such as the Deepwater Horizon last year from being repeated. It also helped that we had such fantastic warm weather that day and many people were out and about in Edinburgh.

All in all we got 46 cards signed in one hour, which was our entire remaining stock, and left us with a great sense of achievement. Next we’ll be delivering these and more cards we’ve collected at other events to local MPs around Edinburgh.
