ESJS hosted this event in the Forest Cafe and some volunteers from the Edinburgh Greenpeace group went along.

We began by watching some informative film clips about the Arctic, mostly from the BBC's Frozen Planet series, we then saw a few Greenpeace videos. Afterwards Anna and I were invited to say a few things about the Save the Arctic campaign and this was followed by a discussion about the issues raised. Many good points were covered, about the global sanctuary proposed, about research that is funded in a large way by the oil and gas industries and about broader issues including what we can do about climate change at a local level.

With regards to the last point, the Community Empowerment bill was mentioned which could help communities to use local land to grow food, aswell as other things. Have a look at the consultation:  http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/People/engage/cer
