A group of four Greenpeace volunteers from Scotland and the North of England headed over to the Dumfries Environment Fair for the weekend of the 4th and 5th March to spread the word about Greenpeace and to network with other Scottish environmentalists in an area where there currently isn’t a Greenpeace group. It was an absolute pleasure – the polar bear costume was very popular with the many children who attended (especially on the Saturday) and, along with creative activities for the children to do and face painting on offer, ensured that we spoke to plenty of people about our campaigns to Go Beyond Oil and to raise money to build the new Rainbow Warrior.
We managed to get over 120 Go Beyond Oil cards signed, spoke to lots of people about the issues involved with the upcoming Energy Bill in the House of Commons, and met plenty of people from diverse environmental groups in Dumfries and Galloway. All in all, a very successful and enjoyable weekend.
