We were out again on the 19th in front of the Musselburgh Shell with a very docile polar bear, handing out our leaflets, telling people what Shell are up to. They are drilling for oil in the Arctic, a fragile ecosystem, where a spill would be catastrophic and impossible to clean up.
The only reason drilling is possible is because of the melting of the sea ice, it seems that Shell see this stark warning as an invitation to squeeze a quick profit from the region.
We were asking people to sign the Arctic scroll at www.savethearctic.org and join the 1.5 million people who have asked for the Arctic to be made into a global sanctuary. This would protect it from the greedy eyes of those who can profit from its destruction.
Currently there is less ice in the Arctic than has ever been recorded, you can read a little about that here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/aug/27/arctic-ice-rich-worl...
