THE VANISHING OF THE BEES AT THE FOREST CAFE: 98 minutes to save lives in the hives

On the 9th of June 2011, at the Forest Cafe at 7 pm, some visitors yet did not know that bees and honey pots on supermarket shelves would never look the same again. Others had decided in advance to dedicate 98 minutes of their life schedule to education ...to learn about the mysterious disappearance of honey bees from bee hives all over the world!

Is some tragic phenomenon eliminating one of the emblematic creatures of our childhood? Are we indifferently changing the environment for future generations? Is the million years old coevolution between the bees and the flowering plants going to be arrested within a few seconds of the evolutionary calendar by unwise human choice? What consequences will an inpoverished diet have on our health? How does industrial honey production impact on bees? Which causes are being considered responsible for so-called ‘Colony Collapse Disorder’? (CCD) What will the loss of honey bees cost to our economy and livelihood? ...and what about the bee keepers? But most importantly, can we do anything about it?

If for any reason you care for one of the most altruistic creatures known in nature; for the creature that took care of your food (and thus took care of you!) since before you were born, this documentary puts you on the right path to defend our invaluable bees.

Last Thursday night, this is how about 25-30 people may have questioned the way they think about their food shopping after watching part or all of the documentary at the Forest Cafe. Don’t forget, it’s never late to do something about it!

- Biodynamic farming products promote bees’ conservation minimizing the causes of CCD.

- Eliminate or reduce from your food shopping list non-organic food (e.g.: honey).

- More flowers in the environment promote bees conservation.

- Buy locally produced (organic) honey, rather than imported.

- Adopt bio-dynamics for your garden.

- When doing food shopping, think critically and investigate on the actual cost for the items you purchase (why is it cheaper? Am I indirectly paying the price difference? Etc)
