Between 7 and 9:30 pm of Thursday the 26th April, in the Brass Monkey pub, the documentary “Countdown to zero” traced the history of the atomic bomb, up until the last decade.

Starting with images of bomb explosions in public places; it continues exposing some of the tactics adopted to organize nuclear terroristic attacks; the relevant declarations of leaders, including president Barack Obama, the ex-presidents John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair and influential Government consultants, who discouraged the spread of nuclear weapons; and illustrates both with historical and fiction footage possible mistakes, miscalculations and accidents; the mechanics of the atomic bomb and potential impact of its detonation on populated areas.

This documentary should be sufficient to realise that we cannot only rely on politicians to avoid the consequences of nuclear war, but each of us has to promote disarmament.
