Shell, Stay Out Of The Arctic!

A Shell drill ship has been prevented from leaving New Zealand to head for the arctic by Greenpeace activists and we were showing our support yesterday by handing out leaflets to drivers and passers by at a local Shell garage.

We were asking people to email the CEO of Shell Peter Vosser to demand that Shell halt their plans to drill for oil in the arctic. The result of a Deepwater Horizon scale disaster would be catastrophic and a cleanup bordering on the impossible in the icy conditions. With conventional oil reserves dwindling we need to be utilising better ways of producing energy, not seeking ever more destructive and risky ways of feeding our oil addiction.
