Far, far, far away in a distant galaxy (er… well … Devon actually) an impressive rebel force gathered together in the Phoenix Theatre, Exeter for an evening that exposed the nefarious activities of the Volkswagen empire. Those attending were greeted by our rebel storm trooper, Brian (aka Natasha from Bristol East) who has been tempted over from The Dark Side. The evening was hosted by Malcolm Carroll (GPUK Network Developer).
The audience who packed out The Black Box were treated to a selection of short films that exposed how Volkswagen was misleading the public - claiming to be eco-friendly whilst lobbying against key climate laws. These excellent films were amongst those shortlisted from over 80 entries submitted to Greenpeace's 'See Volkswagen Differently' competition. The video below shows an interview with the winners of the film competition featuring the winning entry 'Pretending' by Andreas Borlinghaus and Johannes Laidler. More information about The Dark Side, VW Campaign can be found by clicking here where you too can also join the Rebellion.
After hearing about the volunteer work that Greenpeace members undertake, the audience were treated to a showing of a brand new documentary which charted and celebrated the organisation's 40 years of campaigning on the environment.
Another aim of the evening was to engender support for a new group in the Exeter area and it was really encouraging to witness the enthusiasm from a number of the audience for such a group. The positive vibe continued in a local pub where rebel plans continued. So what happened next? Well that another blog entirely!!
Additional thanks to Dave, Wilf, Natasha and Richard B. for their help in the evening.
