Tar Sands

The first of 3 Tar sands films was screened recently in the Edinburgh Cameo. If you haven't seen any of them then please look out for them. The first one 'Dirty oil' was very moving and disturbing.

RBS has been identified as a major investor and a recent report commissioned by Friends of the Earth and the World Development Movement highlights the role of financial institutions involved in this project.

Out of personal interest I contacted RBS myself, posing as a private investor. An adviser from RBS phoned me. To cut the story short I asked about ethical investments and was told unequivocally that RBS had no ethical investments. The clear message that came across was that ethical investments were not regarded as favourable. 

The Cooperative bank however has a clear ethical policy and it remains secure and independent...
