It’s been an odd week in the ASU, perhaps more internally focused than most, a bit quiet with Rachael on holiday, but here’s some highlights to give you an insight into what we get up to.
London meeting follow up: Every couple of months the London networks hold a coordination meeting. The idea is that one person from each of the 11 (soon 12) networks come together to plan joint activities, coordinate events and to have a bit of a skillshare. Monday morning saw me finally following up on last weeks meeting, with loads of good ideas as to where we go next.
SW Essex network next steps: The local network coordinator came into the office for a big review meeting, and to plan where the network goes from here. It’s been a bit quiet of late, and so we have finalised a plan to get more people involved, to organise more local events and to invite local MPs to become Beneficial Owners of Airplot.
Airplot: This week we’ve also been reviewing the progress of the current phase of the Airplot campaign, and polishing the briefing for the next phase, starting next week. To be honest we’ve not got anywhere near as far as we would have liked but lots of networks across the country have done a great job inviting their MPs to become Beneficial Owners.
The ASU also had the chance to sit down to brainstorm ideas for what we hope will be the phase, after the next phase. Provisionally ‘Coxplot’ along with some ideas about a new coal campaign.
ASU team meeting: The ASU comes together once a month, to update each other on what’s going on across the campaign areas we work on, and across the wider network of active supporters who deliver campaigns locally. There’s also a few specific projects we’re trying to carry forward amongst the turmoil of everything else going on.
Something for the weekend: My colleague Malcolm has been juggling different priorities this week. Sorting out the details for the team of Greenpeace active supporters campaigning at the London U2 gig, finessing the details for the Umbrella Fair he’s planning on helping out at, and something to do with painting a new banner in the warehouse.
So a bit of a look back, more of a look forward, and lot’s of that dull coordination stuff that hopefully leads to a host of campaigning events out there in the real world. All important stuff, but part of me would still be rather be at sea aboard the Arctic Sunrise.
