The Case of the Rotten Paella
by Ariana Densham, oceans campaigner

2nd October saw the launch of the next phase of our Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) campaign. We released the first instalment of the Ocean Inquirer which exposes the criminal activities of one family network of companies and vessels in Spain - all funded by you, the European taxpayer. We were featured in the Independent on Sunday, the Sunday Times, the Express and the Herald, as well as leading national Spanish newspapers.

Greenpeace volunteers are campaigning locally to collect messages to David Cameron to ask him to publically support the UK fisheries minister Richard Benyon, to end discards, follow the scientists' advice on fish stocks and to stop corruption.

We need your help so please contact your local network coordinator and get involved.

Building the Campaign against Volkswagen
by Sara Ayech, climate campaigner

Our campaign to turn Volkswagen away from the Dark Side entered a new phase last month. We began with a banner drop at the VW HQ in Germany, and a massive projection onto Battersea power station. We followed this with a day on action on Saturday 10th September at nearly 60 VW dealerships across France, Germany and the UK. The following Monday VW dealers around the UK arrived at work to find leaflets 'from VW' on car windscreens 'admitting' that they were lobbying against key climate laws.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in what was a very successful week of VW activism. The next phase will be coming soon, so please keep in touch.

Mattel and Barbie drop deforestation
by Ian Duff, forests campaigner

Following your hard work earlier this summer that saw Mattel and other major toy companies targeted for their role in Indonesian forest destruction - Barbie's maker Mattel has announced that it has instructed suppliers to avoid wood fiber from companies "that are known to be involved in deforestation."

We couldn't have achieved this without your special involvement - helping launch Barbie Hunt, helping Ken expose Barbie's deforestation habitat in Trafalgar Square and on bus stops and tube carriages and taking the message to customers with product stickering.

Legal challenge over Government new nuclear plans
by Louise Hutchins, energy campaigner

Greenpeace has served legal papers on the Government for unlawfully pressing ahead with its plans for new nuclear power stations in England and Wales without taking into account the implications of the Fukushima disaster.

The first reactors are planned by French energy giant EDF for Hinkley Point in Somerset. Over 200 people, took part in a successful non-violent blockade at Hinkley on October 3rd.

See Stop New Nuclear for more details and how to get involved in the next event.

Rainbow Warrior

The Rainbow Warrior 3 has undergone successful sea trials and is on course to be launched on the 14th October in Bremen. The ship is scheduled to visit London and we will be holding open boat days for our supporters on the weekend of the 12th and 13th November, so please do come along.

We anticipate it being extremely busy, so you must register in advance.

The ship will be moored at West India Quay and the nearest station is South Quay on Docklands Light Railway. Nearest postcode location E14 9SG

NVDA training

If you would like to get involved in Greenpeace's non-violent direct actions you need to attend a one-day basic training which provides an opportunity, through discussion and practical exercises, to explore non-violence, a Greenpeace core value.

You can download an application form from the website or contact your local network co-ordinator to find out more. Training days are planned in Edinburgh, Bristol and London.

Thank you. We couldn't do it without you.
