HUDDERSFIELD GREENPEACE JOIN GLOBAL EVENT TO MARK THE ARCTIC ANNUAL SEA-ICE MINIMUM

Our teeny tiny protest was a satellite event to a Global Day of Action with 75 events across 35 countries. In the UK, the focus was our Polar Parade which saw Aurora, the world’s largest polar bear puppet take to the streets of London. Aurora, a giant people-powered polar bear, is part protest, part performance - all Arctic. She is a giant super-puppet - the size of a double decker bus - and her fur carries the names of each and every member of the movement to save the Arctic.

Local volunteer, Jeff Rice said: "Fortunately for us, the rain held off till about 12:45, so we didn't get too much of a soaking. Plenty of friendly motorists gave us a beep in support. You could clearly see people in their cars slow down, as if to enter the station, see what we were up to and then speed on to fill up elsewhere."

"It was great to be part of a global event like that; watching tweets coming in from around the world. Really inspiring to know that people from around the world were coming together to send a clear message that climate change is causing rapid melt in the Arctic and that we need to leave Arctic oil where it is - buried - if we're to address climate change."
