Real bears on Upper Street

One of my favourite Greenpeace activities - along with Glastonbury which is hard to beat - is always the last big hurrah of the year. Everybody is there, old hands and new faces. A bit of cheerful mass campaigning before heading to the pub for good food and drink. If you don't know about this year's event already, you missed it.

All the London networks were out on Saturday and it felt like a real celebration. Waitrose had just agreed to dump Shell, in fact the plan for Saturday had been to turn up at Waitrose for some gentle persuasion but they saw the light as of Wednesday. We hastily redirected our plans back towards old friends Shell Upper Street. We brought our bears and our banners. A child was asking his mum if the bears were real. Are they? I think the bears' dancing may have been a clue. Lots of honking in support from passing cars, lots of signups to the Arctic Scroll, lots of photos and tweeting and good natured competition amongst the networks before going in search of beer and pizza.

Next year is likely to be a busy year and we need more reliable people in Islington. To be part of this and much, much more, come along to the next meeting in January. No experience necessary.

We'll be upstairs at the Camden Head, Camden Passage, Islington. The day of the week is tbc and if you have a preference, you can vote in the doodle poll or email Athen. We look forward to seeing you.

PS Sorry about the generic photo above, my phone fault has just lost all my data including the awesome group pics from Saturday.
