Chasing Ice

We (Joe, Cath, Alan and Jayne) changed the Leeds Greenpeace group meeting venue to Wharf Chambers on Wharf Street (near the Corn Exchange) and decided to continue gathering there on the first Monday of the month, EXCEPT in February when it will be on the second (11 February).  We will meet up at the earlier time of 6.30pm and hope you will join us. If you don't know where Wharf Street is please get in touch and we will come to meet you at the Corn Exchange.  Phone or text Joe before the meeting - we will usually be there a bit earlier.  The room will be good for different activities which we hope to get going this year - come along and Get Active. Apologies from Susie and Trevor who could not come.

We watched the fantastic video Nick made of our 15 December street campaign with a wonderfully dramatic Paula polar bear.  Please make a comment on our group website if you have seen it.  We also watched the Greenpeace 'You are amazing' video of 2012 activities which is very inspiring. I love the soundtrack.

Upcoming training events :  19 Jan in London - Green speakers training. 2 Feb in Nottingham - Street Campaign training.  23 Feb in York - NVDA training. Talk to Joe if you are interested in going to any of these training days.

Waitrose and Shell - check your local Waitrose for any leaflets promoting Shell or Shell Drivers' Club.  Let us know if you find any.

We will find out what's going on with the Common Fisheries Policy and whether we need to continue lobbying MEPs.  Are they going to carry out the radical reforms??? What will be the next step?

Jeff from the Greenpeace Huddersfield group wanted to let you know that there is a film showing of Chasing Ice at Hebden Bridge Picture House on Sunday and Monday 20 & 21 January.  It is a movie about a climate change sceptic who finds undeniable evidence of a changing planet. Go and see it if you can. http://www.hebdenbridgepicturehouse.co.uk/movies/chasing-ice-12a

Flag for the Future :  www.flagforthefuture.org  Design a flag for the Future. Greenpeace and the World Association of Girl Guides joint project.  An opportunity for creative, eco-conscious young people (6-26) to design a flag to help save the Arctic.  Check out the website.  I took some leaflets to my local guide troop and they were really enthusiastic although had not heard of the competition from their organisation. Hopefully they will submit an entry.

Next meeting at Wharf Chambers.  6.30pm on Monday 11  February 2013.  See you there!
