Fracking in the UK

We had a good meeting last night at Wharf Chambers with new members Sam, Matt, Rebecca, Carla and Hannah as well as Cath, Susie, Jayne, Alan and Joe.  Lots to talk about.

Concert for Project Pod is the main focus and we are gettng fantastic support from Leeds College of Music, thanks to Rebecca, Sam and Matt.  Save this Date:  Thursday 18 April 2013 when an eclectic array of musical talent will perform at LCM to help Greenpeace fundraise for the pod. Watch the website for more details.

I Arctic:  This will be our next street campaign in the run up to the meeting of the eight Arctic Council nations in Sweden on 15 May.   Planning for a day of taking photos of people holding up I Arctic speech bubbles to show the Council that there is a global desire to save the Arctic.  International  I Arctic day is on Saturday 20 April.

Energy Bill:  We are  targeting key Lib Dem constituencies and their Spring Conference later this month,  as we want them to make a commitment – called a ‘decarbonisation target’ – in the Energy Bill, a new law currently making its way through Parliament. This target is needed because it would give businesses the confidence to invest billions of pounds in renewable electricity, creating thousands and thousands of green jobs.

We also watched the video of the clever Greenpeace technical protest on George Osbourne's village green in Tatton which happened on Monday.  See it at Frack and Go :  http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/ and post your message of support.

CFP:  Greenpeace joined Hugh’s Fish Fight march on Westminster on 25 February to urge ministers to increase the number of marine conservation zones.   See also: http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/blog/oceans/hardcore-prawns-trashing-tropical-seas-cheap-treat-20130228.

Training:   NVDA training in Reading and Nottingham.  If you are interested contact nvdatraining.uk@greenpeace.org and copy Joe in your email so he can support your application.

Video Training:  Two video workshops are scheduled for 23rd March in London and 27th April in Nottingham.  This is a full-day training and will skill people up in how to shoot, edit and upload a video using easily accessible equipment.  We would love to have a trained videographer in our network so if you are interested please email:  getactive.uk@greenpeace.org and copy Joe into your email.

Digital Development:   Please share our group webpage and place comments or blogs.   Write about your experience of our Greenpeace Leeds meetings and get togethers.  Tell your friends.

AOB:  Harrogate Greenpeace ‘Yes to Wind’ event on Wednesday 20 March 8pm at Community House HG1 5RR.  A few of us will be going so if you are interested let us know.

Date of next meeting:  Monday 8 April 2013 at 6.30pm at Wharf Chambers, Wharf Street, Leeds LS2.
