One interesting part of doing stalls for Greenpeace is noticing the differences between different parts of South West London.
In Brixton the people I stop tend to be predominately under 40, and very racially diverse. I have know people come up to stalls in Brixton, rather than having to be asked, which is very unusual in other parts of South West London.
When doing stalls in Putney the place is much less racially diverse, and I tend to stop mostly young families. But the Putney young families most definitely don't like aircraft from the Heathrow flying over their heads, and don't want to see any more.
Dave at Wimbledon Airplot stallAnd Wimbledon Village is the only place is London where I have seen horses in the street.
But the problem with doing a stall in a high street, any high street, is that people come there to shop, not to campaign for a better world. And getting people to take two minutes out of their time shopping to sign a petition can often be hard.
Which is why is always much better doing stalls at places like the Lambeth Country Show. Here people come to the campaigns section because they care about the issues, not to shop. And people have plenty of time to browse and for you to talk to them, they don't have to dash to the tube.
Which is why I think the Lambeth Country Show is one of the best stalls we do in the year, and people really ought to help out. Do please join us.
