Malvern group had a very busy year in 2010
Apart from our regular monthly meetings we had seven visits to venues in Malvern to promote the Nestle, Tar Sands, Go beyond oil, and the New Energy Bill campaigns.
1st May saw Malvern Greenpeace at The annual May Day festival in Priory Park. We even had our own Orang-utan. As the day got hotter so did the Orang-utan, he became a dab hand drinking through a straw. We had a lot of support for the ‘Nestle’ campaign and good fun.
21st July John & Ginny visited London to visit the head offices of BP. We were there to represent the Malvern group and all those that supported the ‘Go Beyond Oil’ campaign from our area. It was a fantastic sunny day with the doorman feeling the heat of the sun and of Greenpeace.
5th Nov Visit to Harriett Baldwin MP. Malvern’s Stop Climate Chaos Lobby campaign, Up to 17 people met on 5th Nov 5pm, to lobby Harriett Baldwin regards getting the government to take stronger action to help prevent runaway climate change. On the evening Malvern Greenpeace were joined by representatives from Oxfam, Making Waves, Transition Malvern Hills as well as independent persons. Altogether we had 3 appointments to get our message across. We covered aspects, such as, the effects of Climate Change on developing countries, our local areas poor insulated housing stock, pushing for stronger renewable elements in the new Energy Security and Green Economy Bill, the forthcoming talks in Mexico, the Green Bank, coal fired power stations and that CCS is a no goer, we also handed Harriett a copy of the ‘Centre for Alternative Technology’s’ Plan for a Zero Carbon Britain by 2030 http://www.zerocarbonbritain.org. We also handed over nearly 100 postcards from the Greenpeace campaign ‘Go beyond Oil’ (http://www.gobeyondoil.org). Harriett listened and smiled and asked what we would like her to do…Get the government to take Climate Change seriously of course.
We ended our successful 2010 year with Festive drinks on 23rd Dec to give ourselves a pat on the back.
