WHY VOLKSWAGEN HAVE TURNED TO THE DARKSIDE

Posted by Comrade Elliot - 13 February 2012 at 10:15pm - Comments

Greetings free peoples

Perhaps you were, or were not aware, but our planet is under threat. As the dreadful and irreversible effects of Climate Change loom over us all, there are those who wish to see the damage inflicted occur quicker, and harsher in the long run. The European Union, often looked to as the Global Leader when it comes to being "Green" is coming under extreme pressure from those we'd least expect. As a collective, we are currently set to reduce our emissions by 30% from 1990 levels by the year 2020. This is a target we are actually set to reach at current rates, showing that when we find the will we find a way. However, VOLKSWAGEN, the family car makers are investing huge sums of money fighting this legislation, hoping to slow progress and our target down to just 20% of 1990 levels. Whoever thought the makers of the Hippy Vans would be into such a thing? The argument presented is that VW staff risk facing lay-offs (we'll say nothing of the billions the company rake in each year which could easily keep their workforce in the job or the automation of the industry which resulted in thousands being made redundant), and thus appeals to the "mega bucks first!" mentality still rampant and embedded within our culture. As if this wasn't enough, Volkswagen are still doing everything they can to actively combat the growing demand by consumers that their products become more energy efficient and their effects easier on the Environment. The "BlueMotion Technology" which does increases efficiency is found in only 6% of their total fleet, and cost of addition is charged to customers at a much higher rate than that of production. This is why Volkswagen need to be addressed.

We will be holding a film night at the Antwerp Mansion at 19.30-21:00 on Friday 24th February which will focus on a more in depth picture of what is going on (directions found here: http://antwerpmansion.com/ ) followed by a day marching around Manchester in Stormtrooper costume! We shall be meeting at Picadilly Gardens (outside Santander/Cafe Nero) at 11 o'clock and collecting petitions. It would be great for loads of you to come (bring all your friends too!) so we can put the Dark Side in it's place.
