This is a pretty old blog  but makes one happy to be a part of Greenpeace J

Back in November, representing the Liverpool GP group, I took part in my first Greenpeace direct action!!!!

The action was directed against Department of Transport (DfT) because our government has been holding secret meetings in an attempt to block EU legislation to stop Tar Sands oil entering Europe and being used at the  petrol pumps.

I was proud to give a helping hand in renaming the DfT as HM Department for Tar Sands, as I am very concerned about the Tar Sands mining that is taking place in Alberta, Canada which is consequentially the most destructive project on earth, displacing animals and humans from their habitats, and scarring the planet by destroying the boreal forests and inevitably driving on climate change to the point of no return.  Our government has been lobbied by Canada and big oil companies like Shell and BP.

Getting involved with Greenpeace was immense, a few of us stood firm for most the morning (we had no choice being chained to various things!!!) morale was good and so were jokes that went around we did our job well, eventually, I was cut out and walked out to a applause by fellow GP volunteers as in made my way into the back of a police van!

As the months passed, news from across the Atlantic pricked up my ears,  a surprising victory for environmentalists as Obama stood up for the planet and against the climate-sceptics to reject plans for the Keystone XL pipeline which would carry Tar Sands oil from Alberta to Texas!!

With the passing months came better news!! No charges were to  be made against me for standing up for what I believe in.   This could be down to the government not wanting to publicise the topic through court cases or they realised what went down was truly justifiable . . .  I wonder. . .

The battle against Tar Sands is continuing so get involved and keep Britain Tar Sand free!!
