Dickens Festival Stall

What's this Victorians against Climate Change? It seems the past is very literally coming back to haunt Shell.

In a combined effort between Canterbury and North Kent groups we ran a stall last Sunday at the Dickens festival in Rochester. Dressed in our best Victorian outfits we turned out with a whole host of garden games for the kids. And while the adults had a break from their young ones it gave us a chance to talk over the threats to the Arctic and the reckless activities of Shell.

This has been our first outing with the Arctic campaign and I must say the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. People engage really quickly with threat to the Arctic region and already understand the greed over common sense or ethics that the activities of companies like Shell represent.

Everyone put in a tremendous effort and we gathered hundreds of signatures and contact details from supporters. It also seems that there are some Connect 4 champions amongst our ranks and Claire and Jess discovered their hidden artistic talents in the face painting. I also found out that I cannot build an oil rig that can stand up to a 9 year old with a bean bag. Whether this is my lack of the relevant skills or it shows that oil rigs aren't a very study structure I will leave it to you to decide – Shells rigs may be bigger, but those icebergs are more formidable than a bean bag.

Thanks to Claire, Jess, John, Lydia, Molly and Pete for your hard work and positive attitude, I hope you all found it as rewarding a day as I did. Thanks also to anyone who came along to say Hi it's always great to see so many supporters.
