Shell has been told - will they listen?

Our conversation with Shell in Gillingham

The Shell forecourt in Gillingham received a visit today. We were announced before our arrival and we were able to conduct our picketting outside their premises. John Sauven's letter was delivered to a member of staff and many motorists were made aware of Shell's activities away from the public eye. The manager was not too happy though and took a few photos of us and our posters while playing the curious private citizen. There was some encouraging feedback from the public who stopped to ask why we were there. They drove off with a leaflet and something to ponder on during the weekend.

Why have we done this? Because Shell is lining up a fleet of huge oil drilling vessels and later this month, for the first time, will start drilling for oil in the Arctic, off the coast of Alaska.

Over 1,014,000 people have signed up to make the Arctic a global sanctuary and their names will be under the ice, at the top of the world. But the bad news is that Shell isn't listening. Not yet. It's up to all of us to send a strong enough message that they will not be able to ignore.

Keep an eye on this website for more ways in which you can get involved in delivering this message to Shell. Or keep in touch via our Save The Arctic website and the usual social media.
