After a successful Campaign Training Day last week Greenpeace Northants have been raring to get out there and give their new skills a go!!!
Saturday saw Ellie, Jen, Alan and Lisa go out to Northampton town centre and talk to people about the Go Beyond Oil campaign. It was our first town centre stall after a summer of festivals and so felt a bit strange to start with, but we soon got into the swing of it! Most people were really behind the campaign against the endless pursuit for increasingly hard to find oil, and happy to sign a postcard to their MP to help ensure the new energy bill will give a boost to the renewables industry rather than companies that want to continue deepsea drilling in the artic! Some people also got their artistic juices flowing and did some lovely rainbow designs!
At one point on the stall we got swamped by a large quantity of young people who were in conversation with two police officers and they were all stood directly infront of our stall. This meant no one could see us or our stall and so we had the rather delightful task of moving the police on (politely of course) rather than vice versa!!
All in all a good afternoons campaign training - 40 signatures obtained and ideas for making the next stall even bigger and better!
