We had our annual GP Northants Christmas Dinner this week and what a feast it was. A veggie delight of so much food... nut roast, wellingtons, potatoes, parsnips, yorkies, more carrots than you could shake a stick at, Christmas pud, and plenty of fun!!! Silly act of the night goes to Alan who did literally eat his hat... a wonderful top hat creation of yorkshire pud and cabbage! We were all thoroughly stuffed after our 3 course meal and the walk home felt a lot longer than getting there!
By the way, I do want to highlight here that not all GP activists are veggie, it was just logistically easier for the amount of people to only do veggie food... blame the organiser. Meat eaters are allowed!
In between eating we did manage to celebrate all our successes in 2011. I think the one that stood out for our group was the tuna campaign - we got involved in the stickering, emailing and calling companies that were involved in the campaign. Through these activities the activist network played an important role in getting the UK tuna industry to move to more sustainable fishing methods and this is something to be proud of. Well done Greenpeace!!
We will do a round of GP Northants' 2011 soon but in the meantime it was great to see everyone this week and we look forward to a great 2012, where issues such as unconventional oil and the Common Fisheries Policy will continue to be tackled.
