Greenpeace are part of the stop climate change coalition and we are inviting as many people as possible to take part in a mass lobby of MP's on the weekend of Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th November. The idea is to show MP's that people from all walks of life - not just environmentalists - are concerned about climate change and want the Government to step up to the mark and to act on climate change. Can I please encourage you to visit the Big Connection website and join your local lobby.
To make sure we have good coverage in the area covered by Nottingham city Greenpeace group, I have been asked to get some idea of where people live and what their constituency is. So I have devised a survey that I would like you to fill in, whether or not you want to help - there is a 'not interested' button!
As I write this, I have the Guardian front page on my desk which is leading with an article about how the new Government are planning to go back on election promises to commit to an emissions performance standard for power stations - something both the Conservatives and Lib Dems pushed for in opposition - which would have made it impossible for coal fired power stations to operate legally. It is therefore very important that we call the Government to task on their commitments to climate change, especially as the Energy Bill will be going through Parlaiment during November so this is your opportunity to influence that Bill. I do hope you will decide to visit your MP.
One of the questions in the survey is about whether you would like training in the lobbying process. I think we may be holding a training day in Nottingham at some time in the months leading up to the mass lobby. Watch out for more information.
