Molly the overweight rescue pig wants to tell Shell too!

What a fantastic day we had at Brinsley animal rescue centre open day! This is an event that owners Jon Beresford and Bethan Hewis run every year. Jon and Bethan, so I am told, met in 2001 whilst they were both involved with Greenpeace and started the rescue centre together in 2007. One of Greenpeace's great love stories I would say!

There was Molly the pig, Boris the Blind Bull, ponies, ducks, turkeys, former battery hens, a goat, and lots of very keen folk there to see them! Luckily we had Paula the polar bear there with us to help pull them away from all of the furry lovelies to hear about what Shell have planned for our beautiful Arctic. There was a lot of interest, a lot of support, and even a few people who wanted to get more involved locally! We look forward to seeing them again if they choose to come to one of our meetings/events.

Alongside all of the campaigning fun, we also managed to do some fund raising using the stuffed polar bear toy as sourced and clothed by our very own Jane Burd. She found her in a charity shop for a fiver and knitted her a little save the arctic jumper (she's clever like that!). We raffled her off and between that and our charity tin (which also saw a lot more action than usual) we probably raised in the region of £15-20 pounds.

The winner of the little polar bear was a lovely lady named Susan. She was very pleased to learn she'd be rehoming her, and has even chosen her a name. Hope! Very fitting I'm sure you'll agree: we all need to stay HOPEful that her pristine Arctic home can be protected from greedy governments and oil companies like Shell forever.
