A good crowd of over 200 people came along on the 26th April to join in the commemorations for the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident.  We had the Mayor and Mayoress of Nottingham along with the (female) Sheriff and leaders of the Fire Brigade and Police as well as church leaders from across the county of Nottinghamshire.  The ceremony was started by the Clarion Choir and then there were speeches and a message from the Mayor of Minske.  We then went to light the candles, which had been set out in a representation of the nuclear symbol but unfortunately the wind was so strong it blew the candles out as soon as we had lit them.  The ceremony finished with songs from a Ukranian folk group and prayers from the Salvation Army.
