Gaslands

Posted by KFletch - 21 March 2011 at 6:51pm - Comments

Hey guys

A couple of weeks ago Jane and I went to the Broadway to watch Gaslands so just thought I would write a quick post about it.

The film is all about natural gas extraction and specifically the technique call hydraulic fracturing or fracking as it is also know. This way of extracting natural gas is by drilling deep into the earth and then pumping in water and chemicals which fractures the earth allowing for the natural gas to escape though gas wells. The film shows how this way of getting natural gas has led to water supplies becoming contaminated as well as having an effect on peoples health with some households being able to turn on the tap and set alight to the water running from it. This method with all its risks is just another example of our desperate reliance on damaging fuels.

Anyway I hope you all get a chance to watch the film and I'm sure you will all especially interested in the part of the film that tells about how many gas companies are exempt under law from complying with many of the clean water laws in America.

See you all soon

Kirsty
