Just got back from the Gedling Show! And what a jamboree of local colour that was. We had owls, cowboys pretending to shoot each other, and erm... there was probably more than that, but I didn't see anything else because I was busy helping to collect OVER 90 airplot signiatures! (Go Nottingham!)
And, get this... we even got the Mayor! (Nice one Cath). I'm pretty sure you get extra points for a mayor. I reckon it's double for anyone in uniform, three points for a nun (I got two of these in one day once), five for a police officer, and ten for anybody in politics. I only got about ten sigs myself, because I was a bit rusty, because I'd been skiving for a couple months. Sue, as usual, beat all of us. The woman is a machine, how does she do it? Although obviously, it's not a competition.
Our stall was parked inbetween the owls and the cowboys, which was handy because we got plenty of traffic. And because the weather was lovely, and people were idling strolling past, it meant it was a doddle to get them to sign up. They were practically throwing themselves at me, snatching the papers out my hands and demanding more biros. (That previous sentence was a lie). Either way, much easier to convince than the usual Nottingham shoppers who often have this edgy, furtive look about them, as if by stopping to talk to you they are missing out on some bargain somewhere.
The wind didn't help. Following a slight table cloth mishap we now have big brown coffee stains all over the GreenPeace logo. And a big pile of signed airplot cards blew off and I had to chase them and stamp on them, and I hurt my knee and got a big footprint all over someones address, but never mind. (If my knee is injured, I am SO suing.)
Oh, and a spitfire flew overhead and waved at us. Some air cadet people were there as well, and even though we are kind of anti war and anti planes, they all seemed quite nice and we even got some of them.
All in all, felt good to be back in the action.
