Chesterfield Mayday celebrations are always a great day out - marching bands, banners, inspirational speakers and lots of activist type people from trades unions and other organisations. We split manning the stall with Sheffield group - we did the morning and brought Paula the polar bear with us - and Sheffield did the afternoon and Paula is taking a trip to Sheffield at the end of the day. That bear certainly gets around! It was a lovely day and everyone was friendly and eager to chat and very keen to sign up to our campaign to Save the Arctic and have their photo taken with Paula and our I ♥ Arcic speech bubble.
On the 15th May the Arctic nations will be meeting in Kiruna in Sweden. As well as the 8 Arctic nations, there will be observer nations, including the UK, France and China, all of whom want a bit of the oil action as the Arctic ice melts and the Arctic Ocean gets steadly more and more acidic. Greenpeace will be at that meeting with the photos of all the people who have signed up to the I ♥ Arctic campaign sending out a clear message that the Arctic should remain a pristine global sanctuary.
The man in the photo is a very special man - that is Bruce Kent, Honorary Vice President of CND who was at the rally as part of his Scrap Trident tour. He gladly took time out to have his photo taken with Paula and support our campaign.
