Nottingham City Council have published their Draft Climate Change Strategy and they want your opinion! I've had a quick look at the executive summary and it is all hot air with no firm plans - just a lot of airy fairy aren't we great sort of stuff. They have a list of top ten actions such as 'to deliver a CO2 reduction by behavioural change on Nottingham's total carbon emissions by 2020 from a 2005 baseline'. But no indication of by how much and how they will do it. They urgently need our help folks so go to their web page, download their documents and send them your thoughts on their strategy. The consultation ends on 9th September, which is the Friday after our September group meeting so it might be interesting to discuss this once the normal Greenpeace business has been covered. Perhaps we might even send them in our opinion as a group!
It is interesting that the Council are looking to behaviour change as a means to reduce carbon emissions. Ruth sent me a note about a House of Lords Select Committee report on just that topic after the talk earlier this year by Brigitte. That report has now been published and they conclude that 'nudging' to induce behaviour change is unlikely to be successful and that what is needed is a whole raft of measures including legislation.
