Saturday dawned bright but windy. We made our way to Victoria Park in Sneinton for the annual mayday festival, using my trusty gazebo to protect the stall from the promised rain. As it happened the rain held off till the end of the festival, which was really good for us and all the other campaign groups gathered in a big semi circle around the music marquee. We took the Kit Kat campaign and met with a very supportive environment - in fact Sue and I took so many photos between us that I was unable to download all the photos I took and am having to do it bit by bit over the next few days so if you can't see yourself just yet please be patient. Some have already been downloaded but there are more to come. This makes us the leading group with the most photos taken. Well done Nottingham!
We borrowed an orang utan suit and in the morning Leo dressed up as Amelia the orang utan. Leo is a professional dancer so Amelia was very hip, moving to the music and then taking part in the mayday march to the Market Square in Nottingham. The Nottingham Evening Post was there and they took a photo of Leo/Amelia and Tash from Indymedia also took some photos of Amelia and a video has been posted on Youtube. In the afternoon, Sue took over from Leo and she had fun acting like an orang utan till the music started then she couldn't contain herself and Amelia joined in dancing to gypsy music with the Urban Gypsies, a belly dancing troupe from Southport.
All the usual faces were there and it was good to catch up on news and gossip and to also make new friends. Thank you to Stuart, Andrea, Sue, Leo and Emma who came along and helped, thank you to Leicester FoE for Amelia - she was great and generally well behaved but she did frighten a few small children.
