Last year we were campaigning outside certain supermarkets (and inside them with little sticky labels). As a result we have made the UK the most sustainable tuna market in the world. John West, Princes, Sainsbury's, Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Waitrose, M&S and the Coop have all made commitments to clean up their tuna sourcing. In fact the other day I saw on a tin of tuna in Sainsbury's something like 'caught one by one using a pole and line' printed on it. All these companies have also promised to support the creation of a marine reserve in the Pacific Ocean and not to source their fish from that area. Consumers in Italy, Canada, the USA, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand are following the lead of the UK. But not all good news. Over a quarter of the worlds tuna is caught in the Indian Ocean and shortly the Rainbow Warrior III will be there to document the fishing practices there. WE will keep you informed about what is going on. In the meantime you can check on how good your local supermarket is performing on this table
