This is the first time we had been to Tuxfest and it won't be the last. The day was brilliantly sunny and more by luck than judgement we chose a spot for the gazebo that was directly in the sun. So it was really hot! And bright! It was very quiet to begin with - something to do with the fact that the festival is a 3 day event and people were sleeping off the previous evening. But it picked up and there were lots of families and things for the kids to do. Then early afternoon the bands started playing. All local bands and a stage powered by solar PV cells. Did I say it was sunny? Some of them were really good and some of them Megan (who is a lot younger than me!) had heard of. Everyone was interested in the Save the Arctic campaign and happy to sign up to the cause. We did have Paula the polar bear with us but she found it far too hot and spent most of her time asleep behind the stall but when she did venture out she was popular with, mainly, the teenagers. Little kids are funny. They see Paula, get all excited but as soon as they get close they panic and either burst into tears or run away or both. Occasionally though you get the mini stalker who follows Paula around. You can see the photos we took on the day here on our Flickr site. Lots of stuff for the kids to do and undiscovered skills amongst our activists. Lots of sitting around in the sun too. It's hard work being a Greenpeace activist sometimes!
