The group is very active at the moment on two missions.
We are hiding Barbie dolls as part of the campaign against Mattel because they use pulp from illegally logged rainforest timber in the packaging. Find out more on the Greenpeace website. The dolls have got a chainsaw with them to cut down rainforest and a tag giving further instructions. It's a bit like Mission Impossible. There are 4 dolls still hidden (one has been found) in Nottingham. See if you can find one of them. When you find them register them on the website and follow the secret instructions you will be given. We are also stickering Barbie dolls in selected toy store chains.
We are also still stickering tuna products. John West is still not switching to sustainable tuna fishing methods and is continuing to use fish caught by purse seine nets and fish aggregation devices. This method of fishing creates huge amounts of by-catch including sharks, turtles, rays and juvenile tuna (hence depleting further stocks) and endangered tuna species. So we are stickering John West tuna products and approaching supermarket managers to ask them to de-stock John West.
I just did that at my local Coop. They took my number and I just got a phone call from the Coop to discuss the issue further. Their arguement is that while there is customer demand for the product they will continue to sell it. If you want to talk to them direct and avoid customer care line try this number: 0161 834 1212 and ask them to destock John West
