After what seems like months of campaigning and stickering of its tuna products, John West has finally agreed to change their policy and move towards sustainable tuna fishing. This is a big deal as John West sell about 2/3 of all tinned tuna sold in the UK. This makes the UK tuna market the most sustainable tuna market in the entire world - and it is all down to you guys, with your letters to John West and your product decorations. But this also has global implications as John West are part of a bigger company, MW Brands who sell tuna throughout Europe and John West has a particularly big presence in Ireland. The UK is the second largest market in the world for tinned tuna, so what we have achieved here has massive implications but we must realise that the battle is only half won. We have achieved a lot in the Uk but we are dealing with multinational corporations, and, like ocean tankers, they take a while to change direction, so Greenpeace will continue to monitor them to make sure they honour their commitments but for the moment take a large pat on the back because without you guys this would have been a longer harder fight.
