Over the last 3 years Greenpeace has campaigned on a variety of peace & disarmament issues, primarily linked to potential replacement of the Trident nuclear missile system. This is a summary of what we've been up to.

Highlights include:

  • Projection of a 100 foot message 'Darling cut the crap / Trident' onto Big Ben at 3am linked to the release of the 'In the Firing Line' report.
  • Mobilisation of the Trident Network to support Nuke Watch to track the movement of nuclear warheads around the UK.
  • Occupation of site of US Star Wars base in the Czech republic the establishment of Peaceland, and the subsequent eviction.
  • Surrounding AWE Aldermaston, as part of a coalition of 5000+ people to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1st Aldermaston march.
  • Critical mass, protests and rallies at Parliament for the big Trident vote.
  • Banner-hang by Greenpeace climbers/boat team off a crane outside Parliament declaring that Tony loves WMD.
  • Concert on board the Arctic Sunrise with a choir led by Damon Albarn
  • Blockade of the Faslane nuclear submarine base by the Arctic Sunrise, a flotilla of Greenpeace inflatables, canoes and climbers chased by polce/MoD culminating in the eventual boarding of the Sunrise by 4 tugs.
  • Ad-van tour of Scotland mobilising political support.
  • National Trident high street engagement work, MP lobbying, letter writing and local media 'Praise or Shame' moments.
