A couple of new reports add to the growing body of evidence which indicates that the UK does not need to replace its Trident nuclear weapons. The think tank CentreForum has published an analysis which argues that we are 'sleepwalking into replacing Trident' and that the money needed to replace the system should be used to bolster conventional military capabilities.
Meanwhile, BASIC's Trident Commission has published an independent report by defence economist Keith Hartley into the economic and employment issues associated with Trident. The report concludes that £83 billion could be saved if the programme was cancelled.
