It's come to something when even the House of Commons Select Committee on Defence is giving loud warnings that the defence review is hasty, hasn't consulted, and could well come to the wrong answer. Even more ironically, there's apparently some idea that by putting the cost of Trident into the defence department it's been snuck into the SDR without that fact being transparent. Shame the government didn't think of that in the first place - they could have included some searching questions like "what are our short, medium and longer term objectives?" before saying "Trident's the answer". But that approach did always run the risk that a bit of intellectual rigour would be applied and a different conclusion drawn..
How strategic is the “strategic” defence review?
