The only candidate who talked about the real costs of Trident and questioned its utility got on the nerves of some commentator, who couldn't stand the results of the poll following Thursday's debate. But instead of looking for comparisons with past and present politicians, it would be useful to look at the 72% approval reported by the Sunday Times for what it is: an indicator of people's standpoint against an anachronistic and unaffordable foreign policy based on deterrence and servility.
