The Guardian has published an in-depth interview with Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, who is leading the government's Trident Alternatives Review. Alexander makes it clear that the government will not be providing the Ministry of Defence with extra money to replace the current Trident nuclear weapons system and says that the review will set out seven or eight 'compelling alternatives' to replacing Trident - including taking Britain's nuclear weapon submarines off from constant patrols. He also insists that the Liberal Democrat party believes it is not necessary to replace Trident.
Well worth a read.
