Last Friday I joined, amongst others, representatives of WDM and Transitions Towns in a UCLan-hosted debate on sustainable tourism and whether or not that can include flying. I'd contacted Greenpeace HQ to confirm our policy and the truth is, we don't have one. (I presume this is possibly because Sustainable Tourism and its associated peak oil issues is an oxymoron). As the audience entered the lecture theatre, they were asked to state if they were for flying as part of sustainable tourism or if they were against it. 34 were for and 26 were against.This was followed by 2 speakers who presented their arguments for and 2 who were against at the end of which there was a re-count. 33 were for and 27 were against. Someone had changed their mind! It was worth it after all...
