A group of representatives of the Green groups in Preston have been meeting regularly for the last few months to arrange our float for the Guild procession. For those of you who don't know, the Guild comes around every 20 years, therefore, having had a good 19½ years to plan it, we started...about...6 months ago! Nevertherless, mainly thanks to Gill's determination and Nick's amazing efforts, we are almost ready to hit the streets.
Nick, second from right raising his cup, has created an amazing wicker globe and covered it with donated blue and green clothes to represent the seas and land-masses [search for 'globe' or 'guild' tags to see some pictures]. We have also been making amazing headdresses and maraccas, and Gill [trying to look innocent in the corner, wearing a blue scarf] has sustained us by baking wonderful biscuits to sustain us througout.
Now, however, with just under 3 weeks to go, she has started collecting tall, strong, young men. They are needed to help form a team to take it in turns to support the globe during the 2 hour procession and it is hoped there will be enough volunteers [press-ganged or not!] to have at least 2 shifts of 6 carriers a time.If you feel you fit the requirements, THIS IS YOUR TIME TO STEP FORWARD AND BE COLLECTED!! We also probably need the loan of a car and trailer on the day to transport the globe to the starting point near the University. Also, any musicians who fancy wearing weird outfits and parading through town making a cheerful racket, your Beautiful Planet needs YOU. If you can help with any of these things then please contact GIll or pop into the Beautiful Planet cafe on Friargate Hill and leave your name etc.
There will be one more meeting, next Saturday [25th] so please try to make it if you haven't already been to one, or you won't be able to join in. All Flowers, veg and bees are to meet on the day, 7th September, at the cafe at 9am - please bring some food as we are having a Jacob's Join type party afterwards. Be there or be.....somewhere else!
