All over the country Greenpeace members were campaigning outside Shell garages in protest at Shell being the first of the oil companies to start drilling in the Arctic.
In Salisbury we had the regular suspects as well as 4 members who had heard about the protest through Greenpeace site and turned up to add their support.... so huge thanks to Laurie, Edith, Joy & John and we hope you enjoyed yourselves and will help out again.
Shell had taken out an injunction against Greenpeace due to their actions earlier in the week - Greenpeace had shut down 77 Shell garages around London & Edinburgh. So when we arrived outside the garage the employees called the police, although we were weren't on the forecourt, and 3 police cars as well as 2 on foot arrived with big smiles on their faces and just asked us to move our 'Shell are out of order' posters as they could be misconstrued - good to know that mid-morning Saturday the police are so busy they can send that many officers for 11 people of a certain age standing around with posters and big smiles !
To make it even more worthwhile we managed to get an article submitted AND published by the Salisbury Journal.
