Swanage pro Offshore wind

Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Swanage!

5 of us travelled down from the Salisbury area (tourists obviously) in one car. Sharing the cost of Petrol, as public transport in a rural area is limited on a Sunday, especially when travelling across 3 adjoining counties.

The reason was to support Offshore Wind Energy, and show support for the most local Scheme to us the Navitus Bay Offshore Wind Farm  which is part of The Crown Estate Round 3 Offshore Wind Programme. We had an interesting day, the range of arguments for and against, this Offshore Wind farm were quite diverse.

Also present were those opposing the Wind farm. Interesting discussions were held, the police at times asking to us to form a separate group across the road. I politely declined, as we are a peaceful bunch and believe in democracy (I think it still exists).

Some of those opposing this Wind Farm agreed that Climate Change is an Issue and needs to be tackled, but this Wind farm is in the wrong place!! It should be on the Dogger Bank or off Scotland!!

I overheard someone say that Climate Change is a myth, but he would not enter into discussion as to why! Another said that it would keep tourists away from the world heritage coastline, but then said we were not local and had no right to support it.

A very interesting day, I was pleased to meet a few NIMBY’s and try to put forward a different viewpoint. And be part of the solution, along with many others from lot’s of local groups , including Bournemouth and Poole and West Dorset, who care about Climate Change and wish to support Offshore Wind Energy.
