Saturday saw members of Salisbury Greenpeace outside the local Shell garage, reminding Shell that to drill in the Actic is fundamentally wrong. Already under threat with retreating ice, it does not need the industrial impact of the oil companies. Given a reprieve this year through technical problems encountered by Shell, Greenpeace need to use this time to keep the momentum of public opinion going. Shell as you know have been rebuffed in the Dutch court when trying to restrain Greenpeace, how inspiring were those comments by the judge. And so....we were out with our banners and leaflets. One thing, I think we could be more clear with our message. Our banners are pretty general, the public often think we are anti car/petrol when outside garages,'save the Arctic' could prompt the question 'what from' but they may have driven away by then. 'Stop drilling in the Arctic' I feel would be clearer. Would be great to join with other local groups again. Shell day 2 was a great success with Southampton, Bournemouth/Poole, Portsmouth and ourselves at Ringwood (check out the vid on YouTube). Great camaraderie and a great cause. We'd love to see you all at the next one. Written by Laurie.
