On Saturday July 4, several of us took part in the Mili-band (a giant human band - in honour of Climate Change secretary, Ed) in opposition to building a dirty, horrid new coal-fired power plant.
We joined about a thousand others and formed the Mili-band around the site at Kingsnorth power station in Kent, where E.ON are planning to build the first coal power station in the UK since the 1970s.
The event was organised by Oxfam, working alongside Christian Aid, Greenpeace, National Union Of Students, People and Planet, RSPB, Women's Institute, Woodcraft Folk, and the World Development Movement.
The aim was to raise our voices loud enough to show Ed Miliband that the UK must show real, global leadership on tackling climate change – through to the international climate talks happening in December and beyond.
Those from our group that took part were: Pete, Amanda, Jon & Christine. We had the privilege of meeting up and travelling with Kev Drake a founder member of the group and one of the Kingsnorth Six.
The day was a successful low key protest, in hot sunny weather and hopefully won't have to travel there again!
