There was excitement, a bit of anxiety and possible a few downpours in the air. When I got up in the morning and looked outside it didn't look that bad. I sighed with relief until I turned on BBC news who said that it was possible with a few heavy downpours over London. I comforted myself that BBC are rarely right with the weather that is. Before I had finished my breakfast Julia was here, a bit early she apologised. We gathered all the materials and we set off towards Balham. For Julia and me it was our first Greenpeace campaign, so it goes without saying we were a bit nervous so we were only happy that Lucy were there and we were getting some help from Maria from the Richmond & Kingston group, and also newcomer Dean who we haven't met before.
It went surprisingly easy meeting in Balham, we found a cafe were we discussed the campaign and strategies. We were to focus on the 'Go Beyond Oil' campaign and the task was simple. To get people to sign postcard urging MP's to back a frean energy bill. It was time to go on the streets and face the public. Dean and Maria was really killing it with loads of signatures and after a while the rest of us also progressed nicely, overall we got more signatures that we had expected with just under 100 postcards. 20 of the cards were for the MP in Dean's contituency, he sent them off to his MP along with a letter. Lucy sent the remaining postcards off to the relevant MP's. So all in all a good start for newly formed South West London group and we're all ready looking forward to organising our next event.
