It seems like everyone form all walks of life are making the connection, the Arctic is to fragile to mess us. The Artic scroll have now reached 1 million signatures and are showing no signs of slowing down. People can relate to it and who in the right frame of mind would go about to start drilling in the Arctic, no one apart from Shell. It's an insane idea it's were amongs many of the replies I heard when I was at Latitude festival last week, collecting signatures. It's as simple as this no one can understand the need for doing this.
Our love affair with the Arctic did certainly not receive any setbacks with the BBC series Frozen Planet last year, it made a brilliant advert of how wonderful the Arctic is. But if any critisism should be deprived of that was that it did not touch on to the greates challenge the Arctic faces which is that of Climate Change. It was only in the last episode David Attenboroughs special appeal that he touched on all those dangers that Climate Change give to the Arctic, even a Frozen Planet producer whom I spoke to at Latitude festival agreed with those assesment and after she assured me that she had signed up to the campaign, she went further and said: ''It's not the Frozen Planet viewers you had to get, they're with you but the unconverted''.
After thinking about the unconverted and who they are, might it be those people who does not believe the talk about urgency and Climate Change when we're having one of the worst and coldest summers in recent times, and when our last two winters ahve been a lot colder than what the average UK winter should be like. Once we get those people to believe Climate Change is not always about warmer weather but can also mean wetter weather and in the instance of colder winters it is actually linked to the melting of the Arctic Ice.
Throughout today local Greenpeace groups will be out protesting about Shell's insane plans to drill in the Arctic: http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/groups/greenpeace/blog/shellday
